The Lay Property Lay property (185 acres) is currently owned by the Nature Conservancy. It is located off the Boston Post Road one mile east of Laysville Center. There is a gate across the dirt road leading to the Lay property. The gate closes at 4 p.m.
Directions.
Turn right on Nicoja Way, drive past the housing complex to the
dirt road east of the stump dump, continue along the road to the break
in the pile of stumps, turn right at the Lay Reserve sign, and park in
the designated parking area. Trail. The trailhead is clearly marked. The trail, which is marked by orange painted metal squares, descends the hill, turns south along an old wood road, then descends the hill further and crosses a stream. From there the trail heads north in a mile loop around a heavily wooded marsh. The trail then retraces the stream crossing, back up the hill to the parking area. The loop is close to three miles in length and takes about an hour. New access. A second right of way is located farther along the dirt road that runs besides the huge piles of stumps. There will be a cleared area for the parking of two or three cars and there are plans for a trail that will start here and proceed down the hill across the marsh to the Lay property, but that project will be in the future. At this time there is no vehicular access to the Lay property by way of Rye Field Road, but work is in progress to make this right of way ready for public use by the end of the year.
