The Lyme Land Conservation Trust, Inc. and the Old Lyme Conservation Trust, Inc. are pleased to announce the winners of their jointly sponsored amateur photo contest. The purpose of the contest was to focus on the celebrated and scenic Lyme-Old Lyme countryside. There were over 255 photos submitted from photographers all over Connecticut. The ages of the photographers were from 8 to 80. This contest was made possible by the generous financial support provided by Pfizer, Inc., Lorensen Toyota, Citizens Bank, Essex Savings Bank, Evan Griswold & Karen Conniff at Coldwell Banker, and the Oakley/Wing Group of Smith Barney. “There were so many wonderful pictures submitted that the judges had a difficult time selecting the winners” said Tony Sullivan, spokesperson for the two conservation trusts. To assure impartiality, the judges were not aware of the names of the photographers until after the judging process was completed. The three independent judges are Anne Hoy, Professor of Art & Photographic History at New York University and former curator at the International Center of Photography in New York. She is the author of National Geographic’s book, The Book of Photography: The History, the Technique, the Art, the Future and Fabrications. Staged, Altered, and Appropriated Photographs, Abbeville Press. William Burt, a naturalist who has won acclaim for his books of wildlife photography: Rare and Elusive Birds of North America, Shadowbirds, and his recently released Marshes: The Disappearing Edens. Amy Kurtz Lansing, Curator at the Florence Griswold Museum and a Yale University doctoral candidate in the History of Art. She is also the author of Historical Fictions: Edward Lamson Henry's Paintings of Past and Present. “This year an additional award was given out to honor one of our prior judges, John Mitchell, who passed away last year” said Sullivan. “John dedicated his career to writing about the environment and so the award was for the best picture reflecting that subject.” The categories and names of the winners are: Landscapes/Waterscapes
